Jazz Mindset
Think Jazz. Think Big!
Old soul, new sound.
Alexander Wittges is a young jazz musician from the Bavarian jazz scene, who performs as a soloist on piano, with the Alexander Wittges Trio, and as the host of the A'Jazz Jam at the Freising Furtner Bräu. Even though he currently mainly plays at smaller events around Freising and Munich – sometimes in a background jazz trio, sometimes solo on the grand piano – he connects this with a larger goal: to contribute in his own way to a vibrant future for jazz. What particularly excites him is the tension between tradition and new beginnings – discovering and carrying forward the music of old and current jazz greats while also gently setting his own accents with his first original compositions. He continuously develops his style in collaboration with the figures of the Bavarian scene – among others at the renowned B'Jazz Jam and the summer and winter courses in Burghausen – as well as in masterclasses with Tizian Jost and Emmet Cohen's career coaching (online). In 2025, he was awarded multiple times: with two scholarships from IG Jazz Burghausen and a 2nd place as a soloist (piano) in the competition “Youth Jazz Bavaria".
At the center of his understanding of music is the encounter with other musicians on stage – whether in a private setting, in a small club, at a jam session, or on a big stage. From this interaction, the spark should jump to the audience, just as Emmet Cohen aptly describes with the title of his album "Vibe Provider." Because in the end, Alexander Wittges aims to take the listeners on a musical journey – after all, a musician needs nothing more than an audience that he can inspire so much that the "vibes" jump back from the audience to the musicians on stage.
Jazz Jam
With the A'Jazz Jam, he has also created his own platform where these encounters take place regularly – thus making a small contribution to the local jazz scene. In his work, great respect for tradition combines with the ambition to shape the jazz of tomorrow.

Jazz Trios
The changing lineup does not mean a loose connection – on the contrary. The musicians with whom Alexander plays appreciate each other, trust each other, and enjoy coming together again and again. It is less a rigid group than a circle of colleagues who truly want to meet on stage. And it is exactly this togetherness – today in one configuration, tomorrow in another – that gives the trio its special character.
Jazz Album
The nine original compositions understand jazz as a living process of connection: between the musicians, with the audience, and between tradition and present. The album was released on September 23, 2026, has a duration of 42 minutes, and is available worldwide on major streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
Jazz Projects
Beyond his performances, Alexander Wittges is pursuing several projects that will accompany him in the coming months – and he is happy to provide information about them.
With his mobile piano, he brings jazz to places where it is not necessarily expected: right into everyday life, to public spaces, and among people who may stop and listen for the first time. He regularly documents how these performances in public spaces come about in his blog and on Instagram – an open insight into the daily life of a young musician between practice room, stage, and street.
He is currently studying Japanology at LMU Munich and plans to pursue a jazz study including stays abroad in Japan and the USA.
Alexander Wittges is happy to be available for discussions about this and other projects – whether street piano, studio work, or the path to a jazz degree.
